Masks are Optional, Again

On Monday, March 14th, the indoor mask mandate for Oregon schools and daycare will be lifted. As per Oregon Early Learning Division, children and staff are no longer required to quarantine after exposure to a positive COVID-19 case and all individuals with a positive case of COVID-19 will be asked to quarantine for 5 days (and 24 hours after symptoms have cleared).

New Bees staff will continue to exercise the same sanitation protocols used during mandated masking, including consistent hand washing and using sanitizer/disinfectant on high touch areas. Staff with symptoms related to COVID will be asked to remain out of the center until a negative test is presented or until clear of symptoms for 24 hours. Staff who have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case will not be asked to quarantine unless symptoms are present. New Bees will require exposed staff to test on day 5 and 7 regardless of symptoms present. Staff members with positive test results will be asked to quarantine for 5 days. Staff are still recommended to wear masks amongst children, especially unvaccinated infants and toddlers.

If a child is exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 at home or amongst family, it is recommended that your child be tested on day 5/7 after exposure or once symptoms present (cough, fever, sore throat, etc). If your child is positive, we will ask that the child be excluded from care for 5 days (and 24 hours after symptoms have cleared). Children do not have to be excluded after exposure to a positive case at home or amongst family. Parents who test positive for COVID-19 are asked to refrain from pick up or drop off until symptoms have cleared for at least 5 days after sustaining a positive result. Parents and children with siblings also do not have to be excluded from the center after exposure at home or amongst family.

As a quick note, all New Bees staff and management wish everyone to stay as safe as possible. We also want to recall August 13, 2021, when the mask mandate was lifted for approximately 13 days and then reset once cases and hospitilizations spiked. With this in mind, we will continue to use common sense and caution in the hopes that the masks remain optional this time and that this phase of COVID-19 seems to draw to an optimistic, second, end.

It is with enormous reluctance that I am announcing New Bees will be closed after the last day in August. Many of our families are well familiar with our struggles to keep up with staffing, with regu
